Wawasee Student Council is a leadership organization for high school students who possess leadership qualities and are trying to leave a lasting impact on the school/community. The Student Council currently contains over 50 students who plan and orchestrate events around the school and community through the help of fellow students, staff, and community members. Student council is broken up into four separate committees with designated leaders and members assigned to each event, the four committees are the executive, spirit, community, and student/staff committee. The executive committee is made up of the class officers and deals with student concerns, class connections, social media, fundraising, elections, etc. The spirit committee organizes the cheer block, theme days, homecoming, Pow Wow, and semiformal. The community service committee hosts veterans day, the blood drive, relay for life, Special Olympics, and trail clean up. The student/staff committee runs the open house, parent-teacher conferences, tutoring, and so long senior week. Student council is a great opportunity to have a voice within the school while also expanding your leadership experience through the many different events that are hosted. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Myers or any other active student council members. Please click on the Google Form link below if you’re interested in being a part of the Student Council.

Save The Date:

On Saturday, October 31, 2020, Congressman Jim Banks is hosting a Service Academy Day at the Fort Wayne Air National Guard Base, where a comprehensive overview of the U.S. Service Academies and the respective admissions processes will be provided. Students will also have the opportunity to meet with officials from the service academies, Congressman Banks, the Third Congressional District Service Academy Advisory Board, and representatives from Congressman Banks office.

Students of all ages and grades, parents, teachers, and guidance counselors are encouraged to join us to learn about the process and the requirements necessary to apply for nominations to the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

Attendees may enter the base via the security entrance just east of the airport beginning at 9:30 a.m. To expedite security at the gate all persons attending should RSVP to our office by Friday, October 23 , 2020. To RSVP, email RepBanksAcademies@mail.house.gov and provide the driver’s license number, state of issuance, and the first, middle, and last name for anyone planning to attend.

As you may know, scholarships to a Service Academy are valued at $400,000 for a student. I have enclosed a flyer and an “ad” that can be used on your video screens or in newsletters for you to share with your students. For my office, the Service Academy Application Deadline for the Class of 2025 (high school class 2021 or later) is Monday, November 23, 2020. Applications should be sent to his Fort Wayne District Office. Please note that the application deadline has been extended for this year. The application is also available online at https://banks.house.gov/services/service-academy-nominations.

Our district Service Academy Nominations are highly competitive, and the Service Academy Day helps to give direction to students who hope to gain a nomination from our office.

In times like this, we need to come together as a school! This t-shirt purchase would be a great opportunity to support our school. Click on the Google Form link and place your order. Each t-shirt is $10.00 and you can pay when you get your shirt.
