On Saturday, October 31, 2020, Congressman Jim Banks is hosting a Service Academy Day at the Fort Wayne Air National Guard Base, where a comprehensive overview of the U.S. Service Academies and the respective admissions processes will be provided. Students will also have the opportunity to meet with officials from the service academies, Congressman Banks, the Third Congressional District Service Academy Advisory Board, and representatives from Congressman Banks office.
Students of all ages and grades, parents, teachers, and guidance counselors are encouraged to join us to learn about the process and the requirements necessary to apply for nominations to the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
Attendees may enter the base via the security entrance just east of the airport beginning at 9:30 a.m. To expedite security at the gate all persons attending should RSVP to our office by Friday, October 23 , 2020. To RSVP, email RepBanksAcademies@mail.house.gov and provide the driver’s license number, state of issuance, and the first, middle, and last name for anyone planning to attend.
As you may know, scholarships to a Service Academy are valued at $400,000 for a student. I have enclosed a flyer and an “ad” that can be used on your video screens or in newsletters for you to share with your students. For my office, the Service Academy Application Deadline for the Class of 2025 (high school class 2021 or later) is Monday, November 23, 2020. Applications should be sent to his Fort Wayne District Office. Please note that the application deadline has been extended for this year. The application is also available online at https://banks.house.gov/services/service-academy-nominations.
Our district Service Academy Nominations are highly competitive, and the Service Academy Day helps to give direction to students who hope to gain a nomination from our office.
Wearing a clean mask can help reduce "mascne" or irritation to the face from bacteria passed from a dirty mask to the skin.
I will be offering a mask washing service to students every Friday. How does this work?
Every Friday before 11a.m. you can drop off your mask in the laundry basket located in attendance. *Bring an extra mask with you to wear during the day*
There will be a stack of Fabric Labels and a pen for you to attach a label to your mask and write your FULL name on it or First Initial and Last Name if you are cramped for space. Please make sure it is legible! This will keep it from getting lost.
Your mask will be washed with hot water and dried on high heat to kill any bacteria.
You can pick up your mask at the end of the day in the same location before leaving school. Check the label to make sure you picked up your mask.
If this is well received I may add more days to this service.
For those of you washing masks at home:
Wash in hot water
Ideally you should do this daily to have a clean mask every day
PUFFS is this week!
